In the same way I love having selfies at the top of a mountain but dread the actual hike to get there, there are some books I want to have read but not exactly want to read. Liliana’s Invincible Summer is one of them.

Here’s a quick summary: Liliana Rivera Garza was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Angel Gonzalez Ramos, on July 16, 1990. Cristina, her sister, unearths Liliana’s archive (notebooks, notes, letters) and interviews family members and friends to retrace Liliana’s life. The result is one of the most touching and heartbreaking books I’ve ever read.

In Cristina’s eyes, we learn that Liliana was the life of the party and a kind soul. She was a woman who intended to live unapologetically.
